On Proposal Day, My Boyfriend Confessed to His First Love

Chapter 1

3,812 words

My name was Nadia Cooper. The proposal I had waited seven years for finally took place at work.

My fiancé, Lucas Madron, however, turned to his first love beside him and knelt in front of her to present a ring, saying, "Skye, I haven't been able to let go all these years. I don't want to go against my heart..."

Skye Ingram, with slightly red eyes, wrapped her arms around his neck and gently kissed him. She said, "Lucas, you're upsetting Nadia. I get what you said. Anyway, I wish you both happiness..."

My colleagues were whispering to each other, eager to know how I would be humiliated.

I put the ring on her ring finger, deadpan. "You can't bear to leave this jerk? Go ahead. Be with him. You have my blessing."

"Skye and I are just friends. Put away your jealousy! This isn't the right time! This is a proposal!

"You messed up a perfectly good proposal. What could you possibly do? You're so useless."

Lucas reprimanded me sternly.

Skye aside blinked, looking innocent.

"It hurts...

"I think my traumatic stress is kicking in again..."

She covered her head and kept pressing her temples.

Lucas felt so sorry for her. He immediately picked her up and drove away.

Before leaving, he said to me harshly.

"How many times have I told you already? If something were to happen between Skye and me, it would have happened already. You wouldn't have stood a chance at all!

"Instead of being so paranoid, you might as well get rid of the spots on your face! You're so ugly and petty!"

He always had his own absurd logic for everything he did.

Even though he proposed to his first love in front of me, it was because I was too paranoid and petty and couldn't tolerate her. He accused me of being the culprit who caused the situation to be so tense.

What was more, he insulted me severely for my appearance and my figure.

I almost stayed up late and prepared medicine for him all year round, which resulted in my lack of sleep. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had those ugly spots on my face at all.

Lucas and Skye left, leaving me alone in situ. Not another person came forward to comfort me.

"Lucas, don't mind Nadia! It's all her fault! She's way too petty!"

"You should proceed with the marriage! We'll be waiting to hear from you!"

My parents chased after Lucas' car on the street, trying to please him and begging for his mercy.

Not long after, they came back panting.

"You damn girl! What a troublemaker!"

"Lucas is a man. So what if he has mistresses? Couldn't you endure a little for the sake of your family?"

They poked my forehead with great force and cursed at me.

Lucas' mother coldly echoed, "Our family is so out of your league, yet you're so high and mighty.

"You aren't attractive enough to keep your boyfriend around. It's your fault. Don't take it out on him!"

It wasn't the first time she mocked me.

I did my best to please her, washing her underwear and taking her to medical check-ups regularly.

Yet she still treated me like nothing.

Since she didn't give a damn about me, why waste my sincerity anymore?

I no longer wanted to be the daughter-in-law of the Madron family. Whoever wanted to replace me could do as they pleased.

I walked out of the company in loneliness and wandered on the street.

I had always cared about my appearance, but now, I was so disheveled and unkempt.

Suddenly, I received a few messages.

[I will come home after you apologize.]

[I have prepared a beauty essence for you to remove spots. It's on the table.]

It was Lucas.

I felt a lump in my throat.

The "carrot and stick" trick he used didn't quite work.

Suddenly, there was a push notification on my phone. It was a Twitter post sent by someone in the same town.

[Who is peeling the lobster for me?

[Oh, it's actually Lucas Madron, the intimidating CEO of the Madron Group!]
