The Last Gift I Left My Cheating Husband Was My Wedding Ring.
Chapter 5
“Pregnant, and you’re still trying to tempt me?”
“You’re carrying my child now.”
“Be good and wait for me in the car.”
Logan’s voice was filled with tenderness.
The same tenderness he used to show me.
But now, it belonged to another woman.
I didn’t go downstairs immediately.
I waited until Logan returned to the villa.
Only then did I slowly walk back to the dining table.
Strangely.
I felt relieved.
Fortunately.
There was no child between Logan and me.
That was the only reason I could leave without hesitation.
No connection.
No reason to stay.
No reason to look back.
When Logan opened the door again.
The familiar guilty expression was already on his face.
“Baby.”
“Something urgent happened with the Miranda family.”
“I need to leave the city for a few days.”
“Stay home and wait for me.”
“When I come back, I’ll bring you a gift.”
I looked at him quietly.
Then nodded.
“Okay.”
No questioning.
No suspicion.
No tears.
Only obedience.
That made Logan relax.
He believed I still trusted him.
He believed everything was still under his control.
After he left.
I stood by the window.
Watching the black convoy of the Miranda family disappear into the distance.
Then my eyes fell on the calendar hanging on the wall.
Two days.
Maybe this would be the last time I ever saw Logan Miranda.
That afternoon.
A message appeared on my phone.
It was an ultrasound photo.
A few seconds later, another message followed.
[Do you see it clearly?]
[I’m carrying Logan’s child.]
[This is the first heir of the Miranda family.]
[Unlike you, a woman who can’t even give him a child.]
[If you know what’s good for you, divorce him and leave.]
The number was unfamiliar.
But I knew exactly who sent it.
Angela.
Having Logan’s child gave her confidence.
For the first time.
She no longer needed to hide behind him.
She finally dared to challenge me directly.
But it was already too late.
My heart had been dead for a long time.
The ultrasound photo in front of me caused no pain.
No anger.
Not even jealousy.
Because the woman who once loved Logan had already disappeared.
As expected.
The next two days passed without a single message from him.
No calls.
No explanations.
No concern.
I used that time to erase myself from the Miranda estate.
The clothes I no longer needed.
The jewelry he gave me.
The things that once represented our marriage.
I packed away what I wanted to take.
Everything else was either donated or destroyed.
In the end.
The only things left were the necessities for my new life at the research institute.
On the morning I left.
I woke up early.
Packed my suitcase.
And waited quietly for the institute’s vehicle.
Just as I was about to call my professor and confirm the arrival time.
Another message appeared.
It was from Angela.
This time.
It was a photo.
She was wearing a white wedding dress.
Standing in the center of a luxurious private estate covered with flowers.
And in front of her.
Logan was kneeling.
Holding a ring.
[Logan proposed to me.]
[We’re getting married today.]
[He promised that my child and I will receive the place we deserve.]
[This wedding is only the beginning.]
Another message followed.
[No wonder he disappeared these past two days.]
[He was preparing this surprise for me.]
[He said everything had to be perfect.]
[Even if everything happened quickly, he wanted me to become the happiest bride and mother in the world.]
The last message arrived.
[When he returns to the villa, he’ll bring divorce papers.]
[If you still care about your dignity, leave before I personally throw you out.]
[That place will belong to me sooner or later.]
I stared at the messages.
Then calmly typed a reply.
[Congratulations.]
[You finally got what you wanted.]
The moment I sent it.
A black vehicle stopped outside.
The driver from the research institute had arrived.
I picked up my suitcase.
And walked away from the Miranda estate.
I didn’t look back.
On the way to the airport.
The car stopped at a red light.
Suddenly.
Excited voices came from outside.
“Oh my God.”
“Look at that wedding!”
“Whose ceremony is this?”
“It’s so extravagant.”
I instinctively turned my head.
Across the street.
A long line of black Maybachs stopped outside a private venue.
The Miranda family’s symbol was everywhere.
And in the center.
I saw Logan.
He was wearing a perfectly tailored black suit.
Sitting inside the car.
Angela was beside him.
His expression was gentle.
He reached out.
Carefully tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
That gesture.
The same gesture he once gave me.
Now belonged to her.
After finishing.
Logan turned his head.
And our eyes met through the car window.
For a moment.
His expression froze.
Shock.
Disbelief.
Panic.
All flashed across his face.
At that exact moment.
My phone started ringing.
