Chapter 4

[Nadia, the proposal ceremony was photographed by paparazzi, and now all netizens are accusing Mr. Madron, calling him a jerk.]

[The company's stock has been falling. If this continues, it will go bankrupt!]

After I came home, I kept receiving my colleagues' messages.

On the day of the proposal ceremony, there were many competitors of Lucas.

They wanted to seize the opportunity to ruin Lucas. In this way, Lucas could never make a comeback, and they could continue to monopolize the market.

Skye, who had just returned from abroad, made Lucas propose. He threw caution to the wind and lost his rationality.

His actions gave his competitors the perfect chance. They kept emphasizing how despicable he was.

I guessed it was a disguised form of revenge. But I didn't feel quite happy about it.

I was so tired. I just wanted to rest.

Before I closed my eyes, Lucas called me again.

"Nadia, I need your help.

"The Madron Group is facing a serious public opinion crisis. There will be a press conference tomorrow, and you have to show up.

"You just need to say that you are the other woman, and the woman who has been with me for seven years is Skye."

His voice was extremely calm.

It was as if he was talking about something ordinary to the extreme.

Noticing that I didn't say anything, he continued, "After it's over, I'll give you 2 million dollars as mental damage compensation.

"I have asked your parents, and they both agreed."

Every time something I didn't want to do came up, he'd use my parents to make me change my mind. After all, we both knew how greedy my parents were. They cared about nothing but money.

I could only reluctantly agree time and time again.

I smiled bitterly and said, "Fine."

I hung up the phone and saw a message from the new company, accepting my job application.

I quickly replied and applied for their overseas position in Florence.

The manager agreed immediately.

I was instantly greatly relieved.

The next afternoon, I came to the press conference wearing a wedding dress.

The camera flashes in front of me were about to explode.

Nearly a hundred reporters held microphones, their eyes full of enthusiasm and desire for gossip.

"Miss Cooper, how could you be so shameless? You, the other woman, dare to wear a wedding dress and step in here."

"What do you have that can be compared to Miss Ingram? Is it honorable in your eyes to destroy their seven-year relationship?"

Each of their questions was more radical than the last.

Coincidentally, no one doubted that I was the other woman. Perhaps all of them were hired by the Ingram family.

Therefore, they deliberately made things difficult for me.

Lucas' face turned even more livid, and he motioned for a break.

I interrupted him, finally saying.

"I am the one who has been with him for seven years.

"I haven't done anything wrong to anyone. It is they who have failed me."

"Nadia, how can you distort right and wrong like this...

"Lucas, my head hurts so much..."

Skye covered her head and started to act affected again.

Her acting was as brilliant as ever.

Lucas quickly hugged her and checked her body temperature.

"Nadia, don't go too far!

"The person who has been with me for seven years is Skye.

"Skye is the only one I love."

The cameras aimed at the two of them.

I looked at them coldly.

He knew how aggrieved and sad I felt under the baseless accusations.

He might have felt a bit sorry for me, but as long as Skye frowned, he'd completely surrender to her.

"It seems that Mr. Madron and Miss Ingram are really in love!"

"Everyone naturally knows who's the other woman, the gold-digger!"

Those reporters who questioned me started to mislead the crowd.

I raised my head and stared at them intently.

"I signed this agreement with the Madron family seven years ago.

"As long as I give birth to a baby within seven years, I can become Lucas' wife."

A few pieces of paper without wrinkles were placed neatly on the table.

Everyone was stunned, and then the reporters started taking photos of the agreement frantically.

"So, during these seven years, you have been going all out to have a child! Still, you're so scheming!"

"At the end of the day, it's not Mr. Madron's wife you want to be. You're just after the money!"

A harsh voice rang out.

Skye obviously became even more complacent. After all, the agreement didn't seem to have helped me much.

The criticism of me being a gold digger was enough to make me feel humiliated.

"I've aborted the baby."

I said calmly.

I took out the abortion surgery form and spread it on the table.

After a short moment of dead silence, all the reporters were in an uproar.

"I bet she loved him wholeheartedly for seven years! And she wasn't after money or fame! Or why would she have an abortion?"

"He's really a scumbag! He forced his fiancée to have an abortion!"

Lucas' face turned ghastly pale.

There were beads of sweat on his forehead.

"Nadia... What did you say? You've aborted the baby?

"It was out baby! How could you do it without asking me?"

He shook my shoulders with great force.

There was disbelief, shock, and anger in his eyes.

"Because...

"I don't love you anymore."

I turned around and ignored the commotion behind me.

He sat slumped on the floor like a walking dead.

I packed my luggage and moved to a hotel.

I could go to Florence soon.

I let out a long sigh at the thought of finally escaping this place of trouble.

The airport was bustling with people coming and going.

After putting the suitcase beside me, I checked my ticket and passport.

Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Lucas calling.

"Nadia, you're leaving the Madron Group to work abroad? Are you crazy?

"Last warning! Stop throwing a tantrum. It'll be too late for you to regret it and ask for my forgiveness."

Lucas obviously sounded a bit angry.

It was the first time I was completely out of his control. Of course, he was grumpy.

"Lucas, I don't love you anymore.

"Please stop disturbing my life. It's so annoying."

I responded coldly.

He was obviously stunned.

"There must be some misunderstanding.

"Nadia, come back, and let's talk it out, OK?"
