Chapter 3
After I became a mother, all the gifts Alexander gave me were related to children.
He wanted to trap me under the title of "Mia Mom" step by step.
Two almost overlapping notification tones came from the phone.
There is news from the firm I communicated with before.
"I heard that Evelyn has temporarily retired due to having a baby. I didn't expect that she would contact us on her own initiative."
"I believe that with your joining, we will be even more powerful."
“I wish us a pleasant cooperation.”
I replied to the message politely, exited the dialog box, and it showed that someone had added me as a friend.
The verification message is only five words long.
【I am Sophia.】
The moment I passed, her message came.
There were spots of blood on one towel and traces of moisture on the bed sheet.
Sophia said nothing except this photo.
I understand her subtext.
A little girl who just graduated and has nothing.
She had given Alexander everything she could.
Young people always have the courage of a moth flying into a flame.
Suddenly, I seemed to see myself when I was younger.
When I was sixteen, Alexander and I became the only two students in our small town who were admitted to a key high school.
Alexander's parents, who are middle school teachers, were so happy that they held banquets for three consecutive days.
But I didn't dare tell my father the news.
There were three or five wine bottles at his feet. He looked at me while clinking glasses with the matchmaker.
"Damn it, Claire died a long time ago, leaving me with nothing but a money-loser like this."
"Luckily, I look like Claire, so I should be able to get a good price, right?"
Alexander came to me excitedly and asked me when I would report.
I stammered and couldn't utter a complete sentence.
The door suddenly opened, and Father's flattering voice came,
"My little girl is good in every way. As long as you are ready, I will send her over immediately."
They looked at me as if I were a commodity.
I lowered my head in embarrassment, tears falling uncontrollably.
"I'm not going to school anymore. I have to get married."
"Do you want to get married?" Alexander's voice came muffled.
The response was drowned in tears.
That night, Alexander climbed up to the seventh floor with his bare hands. Under the night sky, his eyes were brighter than the stars.
"I brought the money, let's go to school."
Since I was a child, I was taught to listen to adults.
But at that time, I just wanted to hold Alexander's hand.
In high school, I was ostracized and laughed at because of my accent and the way I dressed.
Alexander was cheerful and sunny, and he quickly became friends with his city classmates.
Sensing my resistance to him, Alexander pulled me to a corner with a sullen face.
"Evelyn, if you don't like me playing with them, I'll only be with you."
"Don't hate me."
Suddenly I seemed to have the confidence.
All the anxiety exploded at that moment.
I cried miserably, and he waited quietly for me to vent all my emotions.
From then on, Alexander would find me eating alone in a corner of the cafeteria.
Every day he accompanies me to drink white porridge.
Facing the strange looks from his classmates, Alexander remained calm and resolute.
"I'm from a small place too. If you look down on Evelyn, you're looking down on me."
Alexander and I had the same score in the college entrance examination.
Tentatively, I asked Alexander which exam he wanted to take.
He answered without hesitation, "I'll go wherever you go."
Alexander's love is passionate and sincere.
"Do you like..."
Just as I was about to ask, Father suddenly appeared in my sight.
His eyes were bloodshot.
"I finally found you."
