Chapter 2

Matteo leaned closer to the camera in shock."Elena,are you insane?"

The next second,Selena immediately hugged him,her voice trembling.

"Don,is she threatening me?I'm so scared."

Matteo seemed to jerk the camera back as if burned.His eyes went cold,and he ordered the guards,

"I want to see how long they can keep acting.Let them on."

Then he turned and comforted Selena in a low voice."If the boat is dirty,we won't keep it.I have someone order you a new one from Italy."

Pain stabbed through my heart,but I had no time to care.I carried Nico onto the boat.

After we reached shore,the family ambulance I had called took Nico and me straight to the Moretti family hospital,and he was rushed into surgery that night.

While I waited for Nico to come out,one of the nurses forced me to have my wound treated.I had just finished when the doctor came out of the operating room.

I rushed forward."Doctor,how is Nico?"

"The heir has suffered severe blood loss,but the family blood bank still has reserves.Donna,you and the nurse need to get the Rh-null blood bags immediately."

I nodded and ran with the nurse.

But just as we were about to get the blood,several bodyguards rushed in.Without a word,they pinned me to the floor and covered my mouth.

Before I could react,a familiar figure walked over and took the blood bags in front of me.

I struggled to lift my head and saw Matteo barking at the nurse.

"Send all Rh-null blood to the VIP ward on the third floor right now.If anything happens to Selena,every one of you is out of the Moretti medical system."

Matteo did not notice me on the floor at all.He walked away quickly.

The nurses'whispers cut into my ears."It's just a scrape on her leg.Does she really need all the life-saving blood?"

I fought free of the bodyguards and caught up to Matteo on the third floor,grabbing his arm.

"Matteo!Nico has lost too much blood.He needs Rh-null."

When he saw it was me,disgust creased his brow.

"Elena,I just care a little more for the student I sponsor,and you get jealous.But now you're lying that the heir is dying?What next,will you bring me a corpse and force me to admit I was wrong?"

"And if you hadn't faked that bloody scene just to get on the boat,Selena wouldn't have been so upset that she fell down the stairs and hurt her leg."

"All the blood here is being kept for Selena.If you dare touch it,I will make you regret it."

He pried my hand off and turned to leave,but those blood bags were Nico's hope of survival.

I dropped to my knees and clung to Matteo's leg."Please.I only need two bags of Rh-null."

Just then,Selena appeared.

"If the Donna wants blood...it's not impossible."

She leaned against the ward door,smiling with amusement,looking nothing like a patient who needed a transfusion.

Matteo kicked me aside and hurried to support her."She just wants attention.You don't need to pay her any mind."

Selena coyly tapped Matteo's chest,then lifted an eyebrow.

"I just want to see how far the Donna will go for this little performance."

After she said that,her gaze on me turned dark and unreadable.

"Don,I want you inside me."

"But my leg is hurt,and I can't move very well.Can the Donna stay and help?"

“If she could do me a favour,perhaps I could do her one in return.”

In an instant,I understood what she meant.

I stood up and clenched my fists,ready to hit her,but Matteo stepped in front of me."What,Elena?Done acting now?"

"I'm not acting!"

I cried hoarsely,"Matteo,Nico has already been taken into surgery."

"You are the Don of the Moretti family.One word from you,and you can find out exactly what happened to Nico.If you don't believe me,I'll take you to see him right now."

I grabbed his hand to lead him away,but Matteo shoved me off.

Then he slapped me hard across the face."Enough."

"If you can't keep acting,kneel and apologize.Otherwise,do as Selena said."

He took Selena inside.Soon,low gasps and the dull thud of the bed frame hitting the wall came from the ward.

Just then,the nurse rushed over anxiously."The other blood banks won't make it in time.Donna,please think of something.The heir won't last much longer."

In that instant,all the anger drained out of me.

I walked into the ward.

Clenching my teeth,I went to the bedside.Under Selena's smug gaze,I held her waist,pressed down her weakened legs,and helped her match Matteo's movements.

By the time they finally finished and came out,everyone was looking at me with pity.

I ignored every strange look and took the blood bags to save Nico.

The moment I reached the stairs,Matteo rushed out.

It was as if my obedience had suddenly stung his pride.His eyes were full of embarrassed rage.

"For the sake of acting,you can even do something like that?"

Before the words had fully left his mouth,he kicked me down the stairs.

I tumbled all the way down.Bones cracked again and again,and blood spilled across the floor.

Matteo looked down at me coldly.

"Useless thing."
