After He Ran from the Wedding, I Married His Godfather Uncle

Chapter 2

Before I could finish speaking, Bernard bent down and grabbed my hair violently.

“For the past three years, Sandra and I have been wandering from place to place, while you lived a rich, happy life in my home. It’s time you paid the price.”

His eyes searched around, finally landing on the broken shards of the teacup.

His gaze turned vicious. He grabbed a shard and shoved it into my mouth. The sharp porcelain cut through my lips and tongue, and blood flooded my mouth.

I lifted one arm to protect myself, but Sandra stepped on the back of my hand.

Pain made my whole body tremble, but I could not make a sound.

After Bernard shoved the shards into my mouth, he spat on me, then clapped his hands and stood up.

Sandra’s gaze fell on my belly. She stepped closer and closer until she was only ten centimeters away from it.

Terrified, I grabbed her ankle tightly with both hands to stop her from doing anything.

This child had not come easily. To me and Bowen, he meant everything.

Sandra laughed mockingly. “Mignon, you look like a bitch protecting her litter. How ugly.”

Bernard stared at my belly and frowned.

“If word gets out that I was betrayed, what happens to my reputation? Sandra, stomp her to death. Kill the child too.”

As I spat out blood and broken porcelain, I shook my head desperately and forced out the truth through the pain.

“This child… is… Bowen’s…”

Bernard froze for a moment after hearing that. Then he burst into loud laughter.

“Mignon, if you want to lie to me, at least come up with a better excuse. The entire Ben family knows my uncle doesn’t like women.”

Sandra agreed. “You really are shameless. After being exposed, you dare slander Bowen?”

“Bernard is the Godfather’s heir. Do you think he’d be fooled so easily, you idiot?”

Bernard and Sandra had eloped for three years without sending even a single letter home.

The old Godfather, York, had been utterly disappointed in him and finally gave up. Within the family, he issued the announcement that Bernard was completely cut off and that the choice of Godfather would be changed.

But the two of them clearly knew nothing about it. To avoid provoking them further, I did not argue.

I could only try to explain the origin of the child in my belly.

“I’m not lying. I really am carrying Bowen’s child.”

“If you don’t believe me, send someone to Bowen and confirm it.”

Bernard gripped my chin. “Bowen has always been cold-blooded and ruthless. If he knew I couldn’t even handle something as small as my wife cheating, he’d only think I was useless. When it came time for me to inherit the Godfather’s position, he would never agree. He might even steal my place…”

“Mignon, I’m guessing this is another scheme of yours, isn’t it?”

Sandra gave a cold snort and stepped on my belly.

“Bernard, why waste time on this loose woman?”

“Why don’t we just kill the child? Then we’ll tell the old Godfather and make him understand that Mignon was the one who was shameless and betrayed you. He definitely won’t blame you for running from the wedding then.”

A sharp pain tore through my abdomen. I could feel the child turning wildly inside me, and an unprecedented, indescribable terror surged up.

I looked at them and begged, “Please, let my child go…”

Sandra suddenly laughed, as if she had thought of a wonderful idea.

“Kneel. Crawl like a dog. Bark while you admit you’re a filthy, promiscuous woman. If you do that, I’ll let your child go.”
